My name is David Gemmell and my goal is to showcase the beauty of Australia’s twenty four diurnal (daytime) birds of prey – primarily through the use of photography and video.

Raptor Capture is the name I have given my blog, as I primarily film raptors – which are commonly referred to as birds of prey. Having said this, I do enjoy filming all birds and wildlife and hope to show more variety through my blog site in the future.

Encouraging our children and adults to become more engaged with nature, to get outdoors, use their cameras more and learn about the natural world, is what this site is all about.

You don’t need expensive gear to capture nature, just a bit of knowledge about your subject. In most instances, just sitting quietly in a likely spot with a pocket camera is all you will need, as many of your subjects will soon get comfortable with your presence and go about their business (sometimes very close to you).

Filming and photographing nature and the beauty of our outdoors provides a wonderful opportunity for us all to travel to new places and meet like minded people who also have a passion for nature and the environment. In fact, I find that most times I get out in the bush I don’t capture particularly interesting shots however, I always have a great time just being outdoors with some good friends who usually join me on my trips.

I get the opportunity to present at many local community & nature orientated groups, which is always a thrill for me. If you would like me to present at any of your group meetings or functions, please don’t hesitate to call or email me.

Getting our youth involved and engaged in nature and the outdoors is something I believe is really important. However, for many kids it can be difficult financially to get some camera gear together, or to get to some of the locations near their home. If you live in Central Victoria and are experiencing any of these difficulties, please call me (or get your parents to call me) and I will arrange to take you on one of my local trips.

The most difficult part for me is finding the birds and wildlife I would like to film. This is where the help of friends, land owners and the general public in locating many of the birds I film is so important.

If you would like to help me capture some bird/wildlife footage, and know of any interesting opportunities, I would love to hear from you. My primary contact is my mobile phone number 0419 382 251. Any information you provide will always be held in the strictest confidence and used only as authorised by you. Furthermore, you can be assured I will only film birds which have clearly become accustomed to my presence and are displaying natural behaviours.
